Jorge Castañeda Gutman

Jorge Castañeda Gutman was born in  Mexico City, May 24, 1953, a Mexican politician, intellectual and commentator who held the position of Secretary of External Relations from 2000 to 2003.

Was Secretary of External Relations during the goberment of Vicente Fox

He studied economics at Princeton University and a Ph.D. in Economic History at the University of Paris (Pantéon - La Sorbonna)
He have a visiting professor at several universities, including the Center for Economic Research and Teaching, CIDE, the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Princeton University, the University of New York and the University of California, Berkeley
He is the author of several books and a frequent editorialist in Milenio (Mexico), El País (Spain), Los Angeles Times and Newsweek (USA).
Castañeda began his political career as a member of the Mexican Communist Party

He advised Cuauhtémoc Cardenas during his presidential campaign in 1988, and in 2000 advised the candidacy of Vicente Fox Quesada, who after succeeding in the elections appointed him Secretary of External Relations.

In his column "Los 68 del 68", written in August 2006 for the newspaper Reforma, says that the number of victims of the Tlatelolco massacre would have been "exaggerated" and that only 68 students were killed.
He was in the position of 1 of December of 2000 to the month of January of 2003, date in which he decided to resign on the eve of the war of Iraq


On March 25, 2004, he announced his presidential candidacy for the July 2006 federal elections.

For the first time in the history of bilateral relations, Mexico voted against Cuba in the OEA Human Rights Commission, which generated tension between the governments of both countries.
Denounced his case before the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights, alleging that the Mexican State, He accused the Fox government of taking steps to avoid his candidacy
 
At the end of November 2007, I published La Diferencia, book by Castañeda and Rubén Aguilar Valenzuela, a former Fox spokesman, which narrates from the perspective of the authors a series of events of the six years, including interviews with the former president, As well as allegations and indications of various political figures.
 
In November, 2014, Jorge Castañeda published his autobiography, titled Amarres Perros, in which he narrates the history of the last half century in Mexico, in Latin America
In the book, Castañeda describes many of the characters of national and international life with whom he had a relationship throughout his public career.
The recent book written by Castañeda is called "Just So" For an Independent Citizen Agenda, Jorge Castañeda proposes a critical reflection focused on the fundamental issues to consummate the political changes that Mexico requires
